Program Area

Climate Justice

Goal
To increase community resilience to climate change by promoting equitable, community-led and sustainable solutions.

The Challenge
Uganda is highly vulnerable to climate change. With a largely rain-fed economy and over 80% of the labour force engaged in agriculture, communities are increasingly exposed to droughts, floods, heatwaves and land degradation.
Climate shocks are accelerating food insecurity, water stress, displacement, disease risks and livelihood losses. These impacts are not equal: women, young people, and low-income households—especially in rural and peri-urban areas—carry the heaviest burden despite contributing least to global emissions.
Our Approach
I4DEV’s Climate Justice work is grounded in community-based adaptation. We believe effective climate solutions must be led by frontline communities who best understand local realities and risks.
